Flagship students will receive funding for the overseas program. Students can also receive funds for summer overseas and any program that boosts language skills. Students are assisted in finding sources of funding through scholarships and federal Pell grants for domestic and overseas studies. Outside Funding

Financial support is available through NFLP, BYU, FLAS, and many other sources.  The career goals of the student determine the source of scholarship funding.

Students with a strong and established desire to use their Chinese skills toward government service qualify to apply for this funding. For students interested in a government career, the NFLP funding has financial and career-placement advantages. A service-payback agreement is required for this funding. Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships are funded by the federal government and are offered by the Asian Studies Program to encourage BYU graduate and undergraduate students to study select Asian languages (including Russian) and area studies. Freeman-Asia provides scholarship for U.S. students who have financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. For more information about the scholarship, please visit Freeman-Asia.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship provides scholarship to students with financial need and has post-program service requirement. For more information about the scholarship, please visit –Gilman.

Chinese Flagship Funding

Students accepted into the Chinese Flagship Program may be eligible for funding for the overseas capstone program, overseas summer programs and domestic intensive language programs.  Students are strongly encouraged to seek funding sources through private donors and scholarships.
